MEET
THE FOUNDER
paul barker
is the founder of enter engineering
Having left school at 15, like many young people, he wasn’t sure what to do next. Paul had heard good things about engineering and decided to do an apprenticeship.
Following his apprenticeship, Paul worked as a skilled person on a shop floor for a year, then studied full time for a degree in mechanical engineering.
He then spent a decade working as a technical design engineer for the coal mining industry.
So he took a job as an engineer lecturer teaching full time students and apprentices before being promoted to engineering curriculum manager. He then worked as head of sales and recruitment for apprenticeships at a large college group in East Lancashire.
During that time, he met so many students with incredible potential. Individuals capable of having great careers – if only they were given the chance. But he also saw that many of these young people were nowhere ready for work. They were missing basic soft skills, a CV that would get them anywhere, and most importantly, confidence in themselves.
And give them the support they need.
Nurturing young talent while helping to remove barriers. While creating real opportunities for individuals who will go on to have rewarding careers in engineering; and become the future innovators and changemakers of the industry.
